The state Department of Transportation will begin a nearly yearlong project this month to repair and repave a portion of the H-1 freeway that is heavily traveled. Transportation crews will completely close the H-1 freeway eastbound from Likelike Highway to Ward Avenue from 8 p.m. September 22nd to 4 a.m. September 23rd to start the work. The same stretch will be closed September 23rd at 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. September 24th. There will also be lane closures which will cause more congestion for drivers during the evening hours and overnight through at least July. Construction crews will have to shut down the freeway in one direction for up to 120 nights. The $42 million project will also reconfigure H-1 to have four lanes in both directions from Punahou to Middle streets.
